MOST of the Corporate Area High School teams will be journeying to the parish of St Catherine today as the GC Foster College of Physical Education and Sport will be hosting the very popular Douglas Forrest Invitational Meet which will begin at 8:30 a.m with the Class 1 Boys’ 400m hurdles.

The meet, which is in its 16th year, has always attracted many entries despite the JAAA/PUMA/Fuller/Anderson Development meet being held simultaneously in Manchester. Meet founder and chairman Brian Smith, an executive member of the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association, is anticipating a smoothly run event.

“Entries are good as we have over 50 schools in attendance and I expect the athletes to come and have a fun-filled day with great competition, and I hope at the end they all leave injury-free,” he said.

On the boys’ side, former ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys champions Calabar High School will be sending a large number of athletes to the meet as they will be hoping to get back on top this year after being dethroned by Kingston College. Several athletes from the North Street institution will also make the trip but most of their athletes will be competing in Central Jamaica.

On the girls’ side, the high-riding Hydel Girls from Ferry, St Catherine, led by Class One wondergirl Ashanti Moore, after a good all-round performance last Saturday at the Purewater/Jamaica College/R Danny Williams meet, will be hoping for another great performance as they would like to send a strong message to defending ISSA/GraceKennedy Girls champions Edwin Allen that they will be a serious threat this year for their title. Vere Technical, St Andrew High, The Queen’s School, and Camperdown High will be some of the other girls’ teams that will be on show at the meet.

Events to be contested are the 200m, 400m hurdles, 1500m, 3000m, 5000m, the 4x400m, and medley relays.
