Former KC star wins 400m at indoor meet
FORMER Kingston College 400-metre runner Dashawn Morris continued his good indoor form this season with victory in the men’s 400 metres at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational track and field meet in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Morris, the 2018 Boys and Girls’ Championships winner in the event, clocked a good 47.26 seconds. He ran in the colours of the University of Maryland. Tony Nou of the University of Nebraska was second in 47.45, while Che Lorne of Pratt Community College took third in 47.91.
Two of Morris’ former teammates at Kingston College, Shakwon Coke and Colin Rowe, along with former Petersfield High thrower Courtney Lawrence all had top-three finishes at the meet.
Coke of Barton Community College was second in the men’s long jump and third in the triple jump. In the former, he posted a mark of 7.60m as Jonathon Wells from the University of Illinois won the event with 7.66m. Ronnie Briscoe Jr of Texas State University was third with 7.51m. Coke had a mark of 15.41m for his third-place finish in the triple jump. Burger Lambrechts of Nebraska won the event with 15.70m.
Rowe, competing for the University of Maryland, had a third-place finish in the men’s 600m after stopping the clock at 1:19.70. Lawrence, a student of Cloud County Community College, was third in the men’s shot put with 17.81m.
