JFF shocked, saddened by murder of Irvino English

General Secretary of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) Dalton Wint said the organisation is deeply saddened and shocked by the murder of former national player Irvino English.

English was on Ashoka Road in Waterhouse, St Andrew on Wednesday evening when a lone gunman exited a car and shot him multiple times in his upper body.

He was then taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

“It is indeed shocking because it wasn’t something that we were looking for,” said Wint.

“It is untimely and the way he lost his life, it is something that we are sad about and we want to extend our condolences to his family, friends and well-wishers,” he added.  

English, 42, represented Jamaica’s senior men’s team on five occasions between 2001 and 2002, including a FIFA World Cup Qualifier match.

He has since embarked on a coaching career where he has worked as a member of David Lalor-led coaching staff at Wolmer’s Boys School and now with current Wolmer’s coach Alex Thomas as his assistant coach

Wint said English had a bright career and that his death will be a blow to the youngsters who he was coaching.

“It is a huge loss to football,” said Wint.

“He was a coach in his own right and so that will be missed by his school Wolmer’s and so it is a sad lost. He represented the national team and we at the JFF are in mourning,” he said.
