Veteran seamer Derval Green has been recalled to the Jamaica Scorpions squad as they get ready to take on the Windward Islands Hurricanes in their seventh-round West Indies Championship four-day match at the Grenada National Stadium starting tomorrow.

The 31-year-old Green, who missed the game against the Guyana Jaguars, replaces another injured fast bowler in Nicholson Gordon, who picked up a groin injury during that same game against the Jaguars.

Green’s return is bittersweet news for the Jamaica Scorpions camp, as they will be losing the team’s second-highest wicket-taker in Gordon.

The right-arm medium pacer Green has picked up 13 wickets in five games for the Scorpions and assistant coach Nikita Miller says the long-serving all-rounder will add some stability to the side once he is fit and ready to go.

“When you get back a senior player like Derval, it’s always good for the team. He has been a very important part of the group and he has contributed with the ball and also with the bat,” said Miller.

In the meantime, inclement weather has hampered the team’s preparations somewhat ahead of Thursday start. However, Miller says the squad has been coping with the situation as best as they can.

“We have been having some rain down this side but we were able to still get in a full practice session. Our approach is still going to be the same as we try to be positive and try to get more points than the opposition over the next coming days,” added Miller.

The Jamaica Scorpions are currently third in the standings on 61.2 points behind the Guyana Jaguars in second place on 79 points. The Barbados Pride are the table toppers with 108.2 points. The Windward Volcanoes are in fourth place with 56.8 points followed by Trinidad and Tobago Red Force in fifth with 54.8 and the Leeward Islands Hurricanes at the foot of the table on 40.4 points.
