With horse racing set to resume on Saturday after being suspended on March 21, tickets for the race meet are scheduled to go on sale on Tuesday at Caymanas Park.

This will be the first time in three years that punters and owners, who do not have any horses competing on the race days, will be asked to pay an admission fee to enter the track.

With the exception of the Reserved Area and North Lounge, admission fees were removed for the facility when Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment Limited (SVREL) took over operations of the Park in early 2017.

The cost to get in at the North Lounge is $1,500, Reserved Area $1,000, Grandstand $1,000 and the bleachers $300.

Lorna Gooden, general manager of SVREL, told The Sunday Gleaner yesterday that the measures are meant to help limit the number of persons who enter the facility on race days, as only 1,200 individuals will be allowed inside at the track, which has a capacity of 14,000.

“The reason for the cost of admission is to restrict the numbers of persons that will be coming into the racetrack,” said Gooden.

CONTROL MEASURES

“We just want to make sure that the people who are coming really want to come, and it is not just crowd, because it is a part of crowd-control measures as we have to operate under the protocols,” she added.

Gooden added that the promoters will, in the future, look to increase the number of patrons allowed inside the venue.

“We are working with 1,200 persons, but we wanted more because we wanted 50 per cent of the capacity. However, we will start small and then grow accordingly,” she noted.

Gooden underlined that no tickets will be sold on race days and, therefore, persons who wish to visit the track on race day must purchase tickets beforehand.

“It will be on a first-come-first-served basis, but we will be putting some aside for our valid owners who would want to buy tickets, particularly for the Reserved Area and the North Lounge,” Gooden shared.”

She also stated that everyone is ready and raring to go ahead of this Saturday’s race meet.
