Patriarch too good for rivals

PATRIARCH used his blinding speed to coast unmolested into the lane, before quickening away, and stayed on strongly for a three-quarter length win ahead of CHACE THE GREAT in yesterday’s open allowance sprint at Caymanas Park.

Friday’s showers had the track running fast all afternoon and PATRIARCH, possibly the fastest horse in training, quickly put rivals to the sword with an opening quarter of 22.3 with Robert Halledeen doing little in the saddle.

Well clear of a slowly-into-stride FATHER PATRICK at the top of the lane, PATRIARCH was never in danger of defeat and clocked 1:04.4 for five and a half furlongs, finishing ahead of CHACE THE GREAT, who closed inside the last quarter-furlong but drifted badly to the stands’ side.

UNIVERSAL BOSS was outsped but pipped even-money favourite, FATHER PATRICK, for third on the line, all run off their legs by speedy PATRIARCH.

HAT-TRICK OF WINS

Anthony Thomas notched a hat-trick of wins, 8-5 favourite DE INEVITABLE and 7-1 shots, SIR KEL and SILENT SEEKER, both at five furlongs straight.

Thomas’ three-timer moved him to 31 wins, four behind leader Dane Nelson, whose lone victory was aboard 1-5 favourite CHENNAI EXPRESS in the opening event on the 11-race card.

Champion Anthony Nunes maintained his strong form atop the trainers’ standings, saddling two winners, two-year-old MISTER MANDATE and DONTAE, both partnered by Dick Cardenas.

Racing continues on Saturday with Nunes’ ABOVE AND BEYOND the big favourite for the 10-furlong Jamaica Oaks.
