ALEXA’S LODGE benefitted from six-time champion jockey Omar Walker’s peach of a ride and numerous traffic problems suffered by third-past-the-post, AWESOME TREASURE, to land yesterday’s Miracle Cure Sprint by a thrilling short head.

Speedy PRINCESS KYRA and DOUBLE JEOPARDY got great starts to lead the field of fillies and mares down the backstretch but 2-1 second favourite, AWESOME TREASURE, was shuffled back, next-to-last in the 13-horse field, bumping the rail shortly after the start from post-position one.

SETTLED INTO FOURTH

Meanwhile, Walker settled into fourth with 5-1 chance ALEXA’S LODGE, keeping her in touch of scorching opening splits of 22.4 in the five-and-a-half furlong event.

DOUBLE JEOPARDY took over from PRINCESS KYRA early in the stretch run while 8-5 favourite, WHOSHOTTHESHERIFF, was causing traffic problems down along the rail for AWESOME TREASURE recovering from his backstretch woes.

Meanwhile, Walker was busy switching ALEXA’S LODGE to mid-track, taking aim at faltering DOUBLE JEOPARDY, who he nailed at the wire, winning by a head, as AWESOME TREASURE came flying, a further short head away.

GOD OF LOVE made all with apprentice Oshane Nugent to bring down the curtains on the 11-race card, sprinting away from RAS EMANUEL to clock a fast 58.4 in the overnight allowance event at five furlongs round.

Racing continues at Caymanas Park at the weekend with back-to-back meets.
