Formal Fashion too good for Deep Blue Sea

FORMAL FASHION tracked DEEP BLUE SEA into the straight and launched a sustained stretch challenge to overhaul the speedster close home, winning their five-and-a-half-furlong duel by a neck yesterday.

Hunting a fourth win in his last five starts, DEEP BLUE SEA dashed around from his outside draw with regular rider, apprentice Raddesh Roman, to lead the eight-horse field down the backstretch.

However, FORMAL FASHION, a seasoned campaigner among non-winners-of-four, used her class to chase the colt into the lane and overpowered him midway the last half-furlong, clocking 1:05.3.

Leading rider Anthony Thomas notched a two-timer, tallying four winners at the weekend to stretch his lead to 15 wins ahead of Dane Nelson, who failed to ride a winner on the eight-race card after visiting the winner’s enclosure twice on Saturday.

Thomas, who had two wins on Saturday, has so far booted home 63 winners and remains on track to land his second jockey’s title in two years.

Racing continues at Caymanas Park on Saturday. However, next Monday’s Heroes Day meet has been pushed to Friday, October 23, because of the COVID-19 holiday curfew.
