A Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) source has reliably informed The Gleaner that it has averted a potential strike by its senior men’s team for its two-match series against hosts Saudi Arabia on November 14 and 17. This is because the federation has agreed to meet the players’ pay demands.

On Sunday, The Gleaner learned that the Reggae Boyz had threatened not to take the field for the games if the JFF did not agree to the compensation package they were demanding. It is understood that the players requested US$2,000 per game (J$293,000) but the JFF offered only half of that sum.

“The JFF is going to pay them, so everything is good now,” the source said.

The JFF has had a long and documented history of delaying payment owed to players and national teams in the past. The most recent include payments to the senior Reggae Girlz and former coach Hue Menzies after the team’s participation at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, and the senior Reggae Boyz after their participation in the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup tournament. However, all those outstanding payments were fulfilled earlier this year.
