THIS afternoon’s 12-horse field for the Simply Magic Cup is void of real staying speed, which will suit TOMOHAWK’s one-paced way of closing in the stretch run of the nine-furlong-and-25-yard event.

Ian Parsard’s PRINCESS LIZZY had made all at the distance on debut, winning by 10 lengths in 1:58.4. However, she was lonely on the lead and will now have the likes of AJITA and PRIMAL FEAR welcoming her to non-winners-of-two with matching speed.

Fourth in the 2000 Guineas behind WOW, MAHOGANY, and DOUBLE CROWN, in addition to a plethora of second-place finishes behind the best three-year-olds this season, TOMOHAWK gets an easy task among non-winners-of-two.

Made to bypass the October 31 Jamaica Derby, TOMOHAWK should have faced non-winners-of-two the following day, going seven and a half furlongs, but reared in the saddling barn and was scratched injured out of the event won by KHOLBEAR.

QUICKEST TIME

Wayne DaCosta, scraping every dollar he can lay hands on as he seeks to make Anthony Nunes a one-term champion trainer, had TOMOHAWK back at exercise three days after his minor accident, cantering nine furlongs, before zipping him in 1:06.2 for five and a half, along with stablemate UNCLE FRANK, last Saturday, the quickest time recorded at the distance that morning.

Though TOMOHAWK is a renowned sluggard, he should outstay his non-winners-of-two rivals, most of whom are either new to the group or have struggled at the level since winning their respective maiden races.

Nunes’ SENCITY had closed to finish ahead of TOMOHAWK at the distance on September 12. However, TOMOHAWK had faltered close home after making a big move from the half-mile to run at MONEY MONSTER, who had slipped the field.
