Gizzy’s devotion to Nelson costs him both Pick 6s

GIZZY’s obsession with Dane Nelson led to him missing out on nailing at least three Pick 6 bets last weekend, blindly using his favourite rider’s mounts as bankers, a foolhardy act with payouts of $34,516 and $71,000 on Sunday’s Reggae 6 and Twilight 6, respectively.

His dilemma started on Saturday when he banked Nelson’s ALIMONY in a dodgy two-year-old event on the Twilight 6, which returned a paltry $900 on a day riddled with favourites.

Sunday was Gizzy’s biggest tragedy. A ride-or-die Nelson follower, Gizzy was the only tipster using a banker, Nelson’s SEA CRUISE, to open his $1,020 Reggae 6, a decision which abruptly ended his chances in the event won by 7-2 chance, SUPER AMIA.

It was more of the same, but even more ridiculous, in Sunday’s Twilight 6. On an audacious $810 wager, Gizzy banked two Nelson horses, the first of which sunk his bet, GO DEH GIRL, beaten by stablemate HOIST THE MAST with Omar Walker astride. Had Gizzy spread his bet in the two-year-old event, he would have nailed the $71,000 Twilight 6 payout, which Nelson closed with victory astride EXCESSIVE FORCE.

The Clockman also suffered double Pick 6 blows on Sunday, both bets taken out by one horse, fifth-race winner, GYPSY JAM, who he excluded from his selections, despite using two runners.

Meanwhile, newcomer Frass has the head in front of his teammate, The Clockman, as well as Gizzy, in the race for December’s $10,000 ‘Most Winners’ battle. Sitting on 17 winners, one ahead of his joint pursuers, Frass will have to prove smart on the lead, especially against Gizzy, whose rider, Nelson, will be gunning to overhaul Anthony Thomas atop the jockeys’ standings this weekend.
