Apprentice jockey Raddesh Roman is now facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after picking up a shoulder injury at Caymanas Park recently.

Roman, 22, is awaiting surgery on his right shoulder after falling from UNION FOUR during exercise after passing the three-furlong post on December 19.

“The horse went down with me and when they took me to the doctor, they said that I broke my collarbone and I need to do surgery on it,” he said.

“The shoulder needs to [be pinned] and after that, I will take it from there. But I know that it is going to be a while before I return to riding again.”

MISSED SEASON

Roman is lamenting missing out on the close of the racing season during the holiday period.

“It has been tough for me not being able to ride, especially in this holiday period, but I just have to just work with it because there is nothing that I can do about it,” he said. “I had a couple of good horses programmed to ride in the holiday, but because of this injury, I had to sit and watch them run.”

He said that despite the injury setback, he plans to return to the saddle much stronger and fitter.

“It is tough, because everybody is out there riding and earning their food, as this is our work; this is what we live off,” he said. “I know that things will be much better whenever I return to riding because I am a very confident person, and I believe in myself at all times that I can do it.

“Things have gone well my in career so far, but it could have gone better. I will just continue to work hard and deliver whenever I get the chances.”

Roman has ridden 60 winners since starting out in September 2018 and registered 21 winners this year.
