Gorgeous Gift’s disqualification floors Clockman’s big wager

The Clockman was denied consecutive Twilight 6 bets to start the new year, GORGEOUS GIFT’s disqualification being the harshest on January 1. The Clockman had the 2-1 winner among three selections but was left empty-handed when the late announcement came that apprentice Jordan Barrett had weighed in a kilo short.

After naming fourth-race winner, 8-1 shot, DR BANNER, as his ‘Outsider’ on the Track and Pools’ ‘Best Bets’ page, The Clockman’s $5,760 wager, his highest outlay ever, was shot down by the disqualification of GORGEOUS GIFT, which resulted in 7-2 chance JOLLY’S DREAM being awarded the event and a Twilight 6 payout of $330,997.

On Saturday, LUMINOUS POWER turned off the lights on Rookie and Gizzy in the opening event, denying both tipsters an early jump on rivals in the annual ‘Most Reggae 6 wins’ category.

Rookie and Gizzy were stumped by the 11-1 shot, who took advantage of a poor field to maintain the lead off the home turn. Saturday’s Reggae 6 returned a payout of $19,348, which left both tipsters ruing not spreading their bets in the spotty event.

Meanwhile, Frass is off to a bullet start in January’s ‘Monthly Most Winners’ category, seven winners in two meets, including back-to-form CRIMSON on New Year’s Day, showing the value of on-the-ground tipsters.

Frass had KILLER BEE as a stand-alone selection among his four winners on Saturday, pushing him two clear of teammate The Clockman and Gizzy on five apiece.
