Lue confident of TT leadership

Jamaica Table Tennis Association presidential candidate Andrew Lue heads into this Saturday’s controversial annual general meeting (AGM) and election of officers confident of victory, but warned his supporters that there are no guarantees of success, as he looks to unseat incumbent Godfrey Lothian.
Lue has assembled a strong team for this weekend’s elections, which will see Wayne Tai running for first vice-president, Danville Walker for second vice-president, Collette Palmer for the post of treasurer, and general secretary candidate Karen-Sinclair-Lym, who initially announced she would be contesting the first vice-president post.
“This is a democratic process and not because I have a slate means they will be selected, because it’s the delegates who have the vote. But I think we have a strong team and I look forward to the AGM on Saturday, so we can finalise everything and start working,” said Lue.

He also noted that Executive Director at The University of the West Indies, Mona’s School of Business and Management, Dr David McBean, has also been added to the team.
“We have been very fortunate to have Dr David McBean throw his support behind us in an advisory role,” Lue said.
Meanwhile, Lue explained that the decision to have Sinclair-Lym contest the general secretary post was because he thought she would better serve in that capacity.
“My team is a dynamic team, and what is best for the sport is what we do. Everyone has said they would serve where they are needed. There are no egos involved, people serve where we want them to serve, as we are a team, and I felt strongly that those changes were to be made.
“But there is no problem shuffling around, as long as it is the best thing for the sport,” Lue insisted, before pointing out his hopes that Saturday’s exercise will signal the beginning of the end of a long and unsavoury struggle for the leadership of the association.
“I am waiting to see what happens. I am pretty confident (of victory), and I am hopeful that we will be able to move forward from Saturday,” said Lue.
Nevertheless, this weekend’s election will not be without controversy, this after Lothian’s team and the Lue-led ‘Friends of table tennis’ both organised special general meeting (SGM), on the same dates and times, to set the date for the AGM.
However, Lue insisted that they went through the proper channel by calling on General Secretary Ann Marie Clue to set their SGM.
Lothian, however, said Clue’s eligibility was in question, after she wrote a letter turning over responsibilities to her assistant Francina Price, who sanctioned the Lothian meeting.
The other AGM to be stage by the Lothian faction is scheduled for February 27.
