In light of the Government’s revised COVID-19 curfew hours announced on Sunday, Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment (SVRE) has now been forced to adjust its racing calendar accordingly.

The new guidelines set out that businesses will close at noon on Fridays to allow workers time to shop before the 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew. The curfew resumes at noon on Saturdays and ends at 5 a.m. on Monday mornings. These measures will be in place every weekend from Friday, March 26, to Tuesday April 13.

Supreme Ventures Chairman Solomon Sharpe told The Gleaner yesterday that he is in full support of the Government’s measures.

ANNOUNCEMENT TO BE MADE

He said the race day set for this Saturday to Tuesday, March 30, and all relevant stakeholders have been advised.

“SVRE will make an announcement on racing scheduled for the holiday weekend, Saturday, April 3 to Monday, April 5 and the weekend of April 9 and 10,” Sharpe said. “When you are faced with these scenarios, you just have to make adjustments, and we are all for the Government trying to implement whatever measures that they need to stop this virus from spreading.”

Sharpe says that weekend race days are usually the most profitable for Supreme Ventures but to keep the sport going, then it will have to adjust to the changes as they come.

“Saturday and Sundays are better days for us, but we are in full support of the industry, and we have to keep the business going,” he said. “Sometimes you have to pull back and take what is afforded to you, so in order to keep everything moving, we are going to implement racing for next week Tuesday. We are also now in several meetings with all involved to be on the way forward for April.”
