Reggae Boyz thumped 4-1 by USA
The first international game of the year for the senior men's national football team ended in defeat as they were beaten 4-1 by the United States of America (USA) at the Stadion Wiener Neustadt in Austria on Thursday afternoon.
Sergiño Dest opened the scoring for the USA in the 34th minute with a brilliantly taken effort from outside the box and second-half substitute Brenden Aaronson extended their lead in the 52nd minute.
Jamal Lowe pulled one back for the Reggae Boyz in the 70th minute, but Sebastian Lletget restored the USA's two-goal advantage in the 83rd minute with a low drive past goalkeeper Jeadine White. Lletget got his second of the game on the stroke of full time to secure the win for the Americans.
Lowe, who plays for English Football League Championship side Swansea City, Reading's Liam Moore, Brentford's Ethan Pinnock, Blackburn Rovers' Amari'i Bell, Bristol City's Kasey Palmer, and Watford's Andre Gray all started on debut.
The result improves the United States all-time record against Jamaica to 17 wins, eight draws, and three losses. The game was part of the Reggae Boyz preparation for the Concacaf Gold Cup tournament in July and the final round of FIFA World Cup qualifying which begins in September.
