D-Day for Cricket West Indies leadership

Incumbent President of Cricket West Indies (CWI), Ricky Skerritt will find out today if the directors from the respective territories will want him to serve another term, as the elections for the leadership of the entity takes place virtually at the 22nd Annual General Meeting.

Skerritt and his vice president running mate, Dr Kishore Shallow, will be looking to stave off the challenge of CWI Directors, Anand Sanasie of Guyana and Calvin Hope of Barbados, who are seeking to get the nod for the posts of President and Vice President respectively.

Skerritt and Shallow were nominated by the Leeward Islands Cricket Board and the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board, while Sanasie and Hope were nominated by the Guyana Cricket Board and the Barbados Cricket Association.

In recent weeks, Skerritt and Shallow have been making the rounds across Caribbean media platforms pushing their ‘Cricket First Plus' plan, while Sanasie and Hope will be hoping that the delegates buy into their 'Inclusive, Fair and Transparent' proposal.

The elections are expected to have a charged tone, given the acrimonious relationship between the sides.

Just recently, Sanasie was said to have reported Skerritt for a third time, to the CWI ethics committee, citing a violation following a meeting Skerritt had with Guyana’s Youth, Culture and Sports Minister, Charles Ramson.

Skerrit thas since rubbished the allegations and is instead looking ahead to today’s AGM.

“All arrangements are in place for a productive Annual General Meeting. This is not the first time that CWI is hosting a virtual AGM, but it will be the first time that our leadership elections will take place virtually. We have everything in place to ensure a constructive and proper meeting," said Skerritt.

Skerritt and Shallow, defeated Dave Cameron and Emmanuel Nathan, in the last CWI elections staged in 2019.

Meanwhile, Sanasie is banking on the confidence he has received from some directors, who have hailed his manifesto as a progressive plan for regional cricket.

“I think the manifesto that we have sent out, a lot of thought went into it and a lot of work and we want to start thinking outside of the box and not the same old, same old,” Senasie stated recently.
