Jamaicans impress in Doha
There were personal best marks for Shanieka Ricketts and Kimberly Williams in the women’s triple jump event at the Doha Diamond League meet on Friday, with Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Natoya Goule also impressing at the event.
Ricketts landed 14.98m in the sand on her fifth attempt to improve on her previous lifetime best of 14.93m, while Williams registered a 14.69m mark, a 1cm improvement on her old PB.
Despite securing the farther distance on the day, Ricketts, who fouled on her final attempt during the controversial final round Diamond League format, had to settle for third place behind Williams, who posted 14.45m and winner Yulimar Rojas from Venezuela, who had a best of 15.15m on the night, and 15.11m in the final round.
Fraser-Pryce led from start to finish in the women’s 100m, stopping the clock at 10.84 seconds, to win ahead of Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare, 10.90s, and American Javianne Oliver, 11.03s.
Goule posted a season best 1:59.70 minutes to finish behind Kenyan Faith Kipyegon, 1:58.26 in the 800m with Moroccan Rababe Arafi, 1:59.83m, finishing third.
“I could have won, I should do better. The next time I should be prepared and my next focus is the national trials,” said Goule.
