Team Jamaica Olympian tests positive for COVID-19

The Gleaner has been reliably informed that one of Jamaica’s first-time Olympians looks set to miss the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games after a COVID-19 test, required 72 hours before departure to Japan, came back positive.

Japanese officials require two negative COVID-19 tests, done 96 hours and within 72 hours from the flight to Japan, for all participants in the Games, which get underway today with the Opening Ceremony inside the Olympic Stadium.

The track and field athlete, was preparing documentation to fly to Japan, but was grounded after the result came back positive.
