Inclement weather plays spoiler as WI lose series

INCLEMENT weather once again proved to be the Achilles heel for the host West Indies, who had to surrender the T20 International cricket series to Pakistan after the fourth and final match was abandoned due to rain at the Guyana National Stadium.
The second straight washout meant the regional side lost the series 1-0, this after Pakistan won the second match by seven runs.
There was little action in the fourth contest, with the West Indies, asked to take first strike with openers Andre Fletcher and Chris Gayle, getting a good start and showcased what probably would have been a good outing with the bat.
Fletcher hit two sixes and a four in his 12-ball knock of 17, while Gayle hit two fours in his score of 12, as the West Indies reached 30 without loss in three overs.
Having surrendered their fifth straight series to the Pakistanis in T20s, losing captain Kieron Pollard lamented what could have been a great opportunity for the regional side to finalise their plans ahead of the Cricket World Cup later this year.
“The series of five matches at the start, obviously we got only one opportunity. As a team we were looking forward to finish off these block of matches with some wins. Having said that, sometimes in life you control what you can control and this is something you cannot control,” said Pollard.
Winning captain Babar Azam was pleased despite the outcome.
“As a team, we wanted to execute a few p, we have a few more games to do that and we are looking forward to the Tests,” added Azam.
