Olympian Briana Williams returned home from the Tokyo Games to news of the passing of her grandmother.

Williams, who was a member of Jamaica's gold medal winning Women's 4x100m relay team, made the announcement on her social media accounts on Monday.

“Just got home and found out that my dear grandmother, who lived with us, passed away soon after I left for the Olympics,” Williams Tweeted.

Williams, 19, said her family took the decision, which she describes as wise, to wait until her return to inform her.

“I dedicate my Olympic gold medal to her memory and for all she poured into me,” Williams said. “Sleep well, Nenna. Thank you, I love you.”
