Struggling Arnett Gardens surprised Portmore United 3-1 in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) on Monday at the UWI Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence.

Goals from Jonoy Cunningham, Romeo Guthrie and Shadane Lopez gave the Alex Thomas-coached Arnett team their second win of the season, a result which puts them ninth on seven points from seven games.

Portmore stormed out of the blocks and jumped into an early lead in the 17th minute, when defender Earl Simpson deflected an effort past his own goalkeeper, Shaquan Davis, in the Arnett goal.

However, Arnett got back in the game, thanks to Jonoy Cunningham's effort in the 19th minute.

Arnett then surprisingly took the lead when Romeo Guthrie fired them into the lead in the 27th minute.

In the second half, both teams created good opportunities to score, but it was Arnett who got the only goal of the half to seal the win in the 89th minute.

Portmore stayed second in the JPL standings on 13 points, one less than leaders, Vere.
