TURNONTHELIGHT and CRUELLA closed from off the pace to win their respective sections of yesterday’s divided Miracle Cure Sprint for fillies at five and a half furlongs.

Restricted to non-winners of two races, both events resulted in speed horses caving in close home after ripping splits too fast for their own good.

In division one, ROCKET LILY, pressured by LADY PUJARIE down the backstretch, kicked clear with Omar Walker off the home turn but was caught at the wire, going down by a neck to TURNONTHELIGHT, who straightened fourth and closed fast to collar the long-time leader.

TURNONTHELIGHT won in a slow 1:09.3, at odds of 5-2, handing Oneil Millings his second winner on the 11-race card after booting home 10-1 outsider CASUAL AFFAIR to a second consecutive upset victory at five furlongs straight in the sixth event.

CRUELLA, a renowned slow starter, won in 1:08.0, also benefitting from suicidal splits set by JAHSENDBLESSINGS, who got rid of KATALINA and BUFF BAY but was nailed at the wire.

Partnered by Dick Cardenas, CRUELLA turned for home ninth in the 11-horse field and closed strongly inside the final furlong to overhaul JAHSENDBLESSINGS, who lost second at the wire to RING CHARMER.

The Sunnyside Stakes for two-year-old maiden fillies was won by Gary Subratie’s first-time runner, ATOMICA, who was slowly into stride with Walker but recovered to pounce on A GIFT FROM BEN, winning by four lengths at five furlongs round, clocking 1:01.3.

Racing continues this morning with a 10-race card.
