Sunshine Girl Jhaniele Fowler believes that it is well within her reach to score 100 goals in a match during this season’s Australian Suncorp Super League competition.

Fowler, 32, who is the reigning Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the league, is currently the league’s record scorer for the most goals in a game with 70 goals in 2020.

“Well, 100 goals is a lot, but anything is possible,” said Fowler. “I think 100 goals from me means that I will have to be on target whenever I get the ball inside the circle,” she said.

In fact, Fowler, who is a four-time MVP of the Suncrop Super League, also holds the record for the most goals in a season, with 883 in 2021.

Her national teammates, Shimona Nelson with 614 goals and Romelda Aiken, 531 goals, finished second and fourth, respectively, in the scoring chart.

She pointed out that there are many great players that compete in the Suncorp Super League every year and, therefore, it is going to be a lot harder to win the MVP this season.

“Every year, I go in with the intention of being better than I was the year before, and if I get the MVP againm then that would be awesome,” Fowler said.

“I think that I have grown every year, and that is testament to the passion that I have for the sport and how much I love to excel in the things that I do,” she said.

Fowler, who plays for West Coast Fever in the competition, left the island at the weekend for this year’s Suncorp Super League tournament, which is scheduled to begin in March.

She underscored that it is not difficult for her to maintain her high standards in the competition because she has always worked very hard in training and is prepared mentally for the competition.

“I am not pressured in performing for anyone. I am just pressured to ensure that I am living up to the high standards that I have set out for myself at all times,” Fowler said.

“Personally, I think that it is going to be a challenging year, but I am always prepared for whatever challenges that I might face,” she said.

Fowler, who is a former Waulgrovians player, has made more than 50 appearances for the Sunshine Girls.
