Molynes’ assistant coach doing well after breathing problems

Molynes United’s assistant coach, Andre Daley, who was rushed to hospital at half-time during his team’s Jamaica Premier League (JPL) match against Arnett Gardens at the UWI-JFF Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence on Sunday, is doing well according to club president Herman Cruickshank.

Daley, who had problems with shortness of breath, was released early Monday morning.

After the game, in which Molynes surrendered a 1-0 first-half lead to lose 2-1, coach Garnet Lawrence said the incident unsettled his players, who were unable to regather themselves for the second half.

Cruickshank agreed that the players were extremely concerned and refused to leave the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) on Sunday night until they were assured of Daley’s well-,being.

“When it happened, it left everybody in a sombre mood. After the game everybody rallied around him, and they did not want to leave the UHWI until they knew exactly what was happening.

“Then he (doctor) told us that Daley had to do two tests before he is released. So when they realised that he was good, it was then that they left,” he said.

“He did an X-ray and a blood test and got discharged early Monday morning at about 1 a.m.”

Cruickshank recalled that things began to unfold at the interval when Daley, who was not satisfied with the team’s performance in the first half, started complaining of a headache, which was accompanied by shortness of breath.

“He has this issue where he finds breathing difficult sometimes. But I believe he just got flustered because of the game and overexerted himself.

“He had a headache and took some pills, but when he went into the changing room again, he started to have problems with his breathing, and so we rushed him to the hospital. It was just an anxiety attack,” he explained.

Molynes (four points) are currently second from bottom in the JPL standings, but they only lead Montego Bay United on goal difference.
