HERBERT MORRISON’S DeAndre Daley and Edwin Allen’s Tia Clayton crowned themselves in glory inside the National Stadium last evening after they captured the boys’ and girls’ under-20 100-metre titles, respectively, at the JAAA Carifta Trials.

Daley produced a brilliant performance to win the boys’ under-20 100m in 10.32 seconds, running into a minus one headwind. Edwin Allen’s Bryan Levell was second in 10.36, while third went to Kingston College’s (KC) Bouwahjgie Nkrummie in 10.40.

Daley said he was very happy with his performance because he executed the race quite well.

“I went out there with a clear mind to make the national team and execution of the race allowed me to do that, so I am pleased,” said Daley.

“I am very happy with my performance because I knew that I was there running against the clock as I was very confident going into the final,” he said.

Tia led home an Edwin Allen one-two-three on her way to winning the girls’ 100m in 11.49 seconds. Tia’s twin sister, Tina, who is the reigning World under-20 champion, was second in a close 11.50, just ahead of her teammate, Serena Cole (11.51).

Tia said she was delighted with her efforts.

GOOD EXECUTION

“Well, it is a good performance, and my execution was good,” she said.

“I am not a good starter but my endurance at the end pulled me across the line,” she said.

Gary Card from Wolmer’s Boys turned in a gutsy performance to hold off the challenge of Calabar’s Shaquane Gordon to win the boys’ under-17 100m final in 10.93 seconds. Gordon was second in 10.99.

Theianna-Lee Terrelonge of Edwin Allen sped to 11.96 seconds to win the girls’ under-17 100m final. She finished ahead of Camoy Binger of St Jago, 12.03, and Shemonique Hazle of Hydel 12.11.

Edwin Allen High School’s Delano Kennedy bested a very strong field to win the boys’ under-20 400-metre title at the JAAA Carifta Trials in 46.97 seconds at the National Stadium today.

Shemar Palmer from Manchester finished second in 47.29 and KC’s Shaemar Uter was third in 47.47.

Hydel’s Oneika McAnnuff won the girls’ under-20 400m in 53.15 seconds, finishing ahead of Kaylia Kelly from Vere (54.09) and Shana-Kaye Anderson of Bustamante (54.25).

Kingston College’s Tajh-Marques White won the boys’ under-17 400m in 48.36 seconds ahead of his teammate Machino Rose (48.52) and Edwin Allen’s Antonio Powell (49.29).

Abigail Campbell, running unattached, won the girls’ under-17 400m in 55.18 seconds ahead of St Jago’s Quana Walker (55.99) and Shevaughn Thomas of Vere (56.99).

Edwin Allen’s Christopher Young won the boys’ under-20 discus throw with a mark of 55.38 metres, getting the better of Calabar’s Kobe Lawrence (55.36) and Altwayne Bedward of KC (54.48).
