WITH THE Reggae Boyz now out of contention for a spot at this year’s FIFA World Cup (WC) in Qatar, midfielder Ravel Morrison remains committed to the national team with the prospect of winning other football tournaments.

Morrison, who plies his trade for Derby County in the English Championship, told The Gleaner he is determined to win something for the Reggae Boyz before he retires from the game.

“I am only 29 and I want to win something for Jamaica,” said Morrison.

“I believe that we can do the Nations League and we can win the Gold Cup or we can definitely push for the Gold Cup,” he said.

Morrison played a vital role helping the Reggae Boyz earn a 1-1 draw against El Savador in a World Cup qualifier at the National Stadium on Wednesday.

RIGHT DIRECTION

According to Morrison, the team is heading in the right direction, just needs to build on the squad they have.

With the next World Cup being hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico and all three securing an automatic spot to the tournament, the Reggae Boyz have the perfect opportunity to qualify, a fact Morrison is only too aware of.

“We have a team we can build on for the next World Cup qualifiers and that will be held in America. We got America, Mexico and Canada dropping out [of the qualifiers] and so we should really be pushing for the top spot there with them gone,” said Morrison.

“I think that we all believe now and as you can see against El Savador, we are trying to play football and we have the belief as a team and the spirit as a team. I think we are controlling games and playing football,” Morrison said.

“I think we played well out there because I enjoyed playing with Speedy (Devon Williams). He is a great player to play with. I think that the young ones who are coming certainly have a lot of potential to be great players in the future,” he said.
