CHAMPS 2022 | Lyston 200 redemption begins
Fresh off her silver medal in the 100 metres on Wednesday evening, Hydel’s Brianna Lyston cruised to 24.21 seconds to win heat one of the girls’ Class One 200 metres at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls' Athletics Championships at the National Stadium earlier today.
The 17-year-old Lyston, who is favourite in the event, is the fastest Jamaica junior this season with a time of 22.66.
Her time in heat one is the second fastest behind Vere’s Kaylia Kelly, who won heat three in 23.87.
The other leading qualifiers for the semi-finals are, Shenese Walker of St. Jago (24.73), Brandy Hall from Edwin Allen (24.79), Bethany Bridge of Edwin Allen (24.15), Dejanea Oakley from Clarendon College (24.44), Dayna Thompson of St Mary High (24.81) and Chanel Honeywell from Immaculate (25.11).
Alana Reid, the silver medalist in the Class Two 100m, captured heat one of the Class Two 200 comfortably in 24.48 to secure her spot in the semi-finals.
Mickayla Gardener from Wolmer's holds the fastest time of 24.48 heading into the Class Two semi-final after winning heat six. Mickaila Haisley of Immaculate (24.80), Carleta Bernard from Mount Alvernia (24.89), Mickayla Sutherland from Manchester (25.17), Alliah Baker of Hydel (25.36), Shantae Pryce from St Mary (25.01) and Quana Walker from St Jago High (25.16) are among the top eight qualifiers for the semi-finals tomorrow.
