HEAD COACH of Jamaica’s team, Corey Bennett, says fans should expect another pulsating performance from the country’s athletes when they compete at this weekend’s Carifta track and field championships at the National Stadium.

The Under-17 and Under-20 male and female athletes are set to compete in the three-day event against their counterparts from the Caribbean inside the National Stadium.

The junior athletes are coming off exciting performances at last weekend’s ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships, and Bennett says he is expecting a similar showing from Jamaicans against their Caribbean rivals.

“We are expecting to go out there and do our best. We are expecting to have some great performances, based on the high standards that were set last week at Champs,” said Bennett.

“I am expecting to dominate this championships like we did in previous years because we have been ruling these Carifta Games for many years and I am expecting it to be no different over this Easter weekend,” he said.

COACHING SETUP

Bennett, who is the coach of Hydel, which finished second in the Girls’ Championships last week, added that he was very honoured to be a part of the Jamaican coaching setup for the Carifta Games.

“I am here to add some motivation to the team, and some organisation,” he said.

“Lucky for us, we will have quite a few of the local coaches present and I am expecting them to add some direction and some organisation and to help the overall management of the athletes,” Bennett said.

Bennett also wanted fans to come out to the stadium to support what he says will be fantastic performances.

“If you thought Champs was hot, then come out and support our all-star team, and hopefully we can bring home a lot of medals for the fans,” he said.
