Man City nominate Shaw, Weir for Player of the Month awards

Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw and Caroline Weir have been shortlisted for April’s FA Women’s Super League Player of the Month award.

The pair played key roles as City finished the month with a 100 per cent win record, with three league wins and an FA Cup semi-final victory over West Ham United.

Gareth Taylor’s side scored an astonishing 17 goals in those four games to boost the team’s top-three hopes and book a place in this month’s FA Cup final at Wembley.

Shaw bagged five goals in three league appearances, including four in a 7-2 thrashing of Brighton and Hove Albion.

Weir also starred, crafting Bunny’s effort against West Ham in a 2-0 triumph, and bagging two goals and two assists against Leicester and Brighton and Hove Albion.

But the City stars won’t have it all their own way in the voting for player of the month with Aston Villa’s Rachel Corsie, Chelsea duo Jessie Fleming and Sam Kerr, Arsenal’s Beth Mead and Birmingham’s Louise Quinn also shortlisted.

Voting closes on Friday at 10 a.m. UK time with the winner to be announced on Saturday, May 7.
