Reggae Boyz miss out on friendly

JAMAICA’S REGGAE Boyz are set to miss out on a friendly international against Basque Country after the latter withdrew over difficulties in garnering approvals in time for the game.

According to a Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) release, the Basque Federation apologised for the inconvenience and have agreed to a future match at a date convenient to both teams.

The Reggae Boyz will now shift their focus to their game against Catalonia on May 25.

The release went on to point to the Catalonia friendly as a chance for the technical staff to look mainly at players from Europe and try to incorporate who they can into the squad, as early as possible for the next four-year World Cup cycle.

“This international friendly will offer opportunities to look at players, mainly from Europe. These new players, depending on the assessment of the technical staff, could play a role in the short-, medium- and long-term plans and meet the objective of incorporating new players in our roster as early as possible in a four-year cycle,” the release read.

After the Catalonia game, the Reggae Boyz will play away to Suriname on June 4, before facing the same opponents at home on June 7. They then take on South American outfit Uruguay on June 11, before facing Mexico on June 14 at the National Stadium.
