Daniel Cope and Nayokia Clunis are the respective men’s and women’s National champions after topping the under-represented hammer throw at the JAAA National Senior and Junior Athletics Championships on inside the National Stadium this evening.

Clunis, competing in a field of just four, used her third-round throw to hurl the hammer 67.35 metres to just get the better of the more consistent Erica Belvit, 66.64.

Belvit had a series of 66.21, 66.64, two fouls, 65.43 and 64.47.

Clunis, had thrown 55.28 and 62.11 before hurling the winning mark. She did not go over 60 metres again.

Marie Forbes was third with 58.24 metres and Fabrienne Foster was fourth with 42.60 metres.

Cope’s field was even more sparse with just two representatives.

The Clemson University thrower’s best of 62.28 metres was good enough to get the better of Caniggia Raynor’s 60.09.
