PRESIDENT OF the Jamaica Lacrosse Association (JLA), Calbert Hutchinson, is hoping a prominent local musician can compose a theme song for the men’s team for their appearance at the 2023 Lacrosse World Championships in San Diego, California.

Jamaica Lacrosse has been making waves internationally over the last five years, adding the men’s World Cup qualification to a number of other appearances at world events.

Hutchinson declared that although they do not have the funds to pay a noted artiste, he would like one of the local celebrities to endorse their appearance at the event with a theme song.

“We do not have any money to pay any huge celebrities but we are asking one of those Jamaican artistes if they can provide us with a theme song for next year’s World Championships,” he said.

“We need a theme song. So any known artiste that can come up with a nice, catchy theme song for Jamaica’s lacrosse team to march out to the colours of Jamaica at the World Championships and possibly the Olympics when it comes around, we would gladly appreciate it.”

Jamaica finished second at the Pan American Lacrosse Association (PALA) qualifiers recently to secure a berth at the World Championships.

Despite the creditable performances, Hutchinson added that the organisation and, by extension, the team are in real need of a lot more support to ensure they are at their competitive best.

He also believes sposnors stand to benefit immensely if they partner with them.

“For the qualifiers, we had to settle for whatever donation we got. We could have spent money to look good and not enter the competition or we could go to the competition without looking good.

“So I am actually looking for corporate Jamaica to come on board because anybody that comes on board right now will definitely get the return in terms of sponsorship because of the traction that we are picking up right now.

“It takes cash to care and one of the things that is going to help us position ourselves is training opportunities for the team. So I am appealing to corporate Jamaica because we really need the support,” he stated
