CG2022 | Another struggle for Jamaicans in the pool

Jamaican swimmers, this morning, struggled to cope with the quality in the pool at these Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

Kito Campbell, for instance, failed to grab a semi-final spot in the men’s 50-metre backstroke after finishing 7th in his heat in 28.87 seconds. The race was won by Australia’s Grayson Bell in 27.63.

In heat five of the women’s 100m freestyle, Zaneta Alvaranga, also found the going tough, finishing sixth in 58.80, The race was won by Samoa’s Olivia Borg in a time of 57.73

In Heat 6, Mackenzie Headley finished back of the pack in 7th place in a time of 57.37, also failing to grab a qualifying spot. That race was won by Australia’s Shayna Jack in a time of 55.20

Over in the men’s 100m butterfly, Keanan Dols, who was set to swim in heat tree, failed to show for the start. That race was won by Jersey’s Robbie Jones in 56.63.

In heat four, Sidrell Williams finished seventh in a time of 56.84, that race was won by another Jersey representative in Harry Salmon, he stopped the clock at 54.89.

In the women’s 100m backstroke, Jamaica’s lone representative Mackenzie Headley also failed to show up for heat two. That race was won by Australia’s Chelsea Hodges in 1:07:68.
