Atomica claims I’msatisfied Trophy in record-breaking fashion
JAMAICA DERBY winner ATOMICA made a smashing debut among older horses, dismissing SHE’S MY DESTINY to clock a stakes record, 1:10.4, in yesterday’s I’msatisfied Trophy.
One of four winners on the 10-race card for the jockey-trainer combination of Dane Dawkins and Gary Subratie, ATOMICA easily led SHE’S MY DESTINY in torrid splits, 22.2 for the first quarter and 45.2 for the half-mile, before responding to her rider’s shoulder taps to change her lead.
Running just off the rail on a fast track, 2-5 favourite ATOMICA sped away to win by seven and a half lengths before being eased close home by Dawkins, sending an ominous warning to rivals ahead of the seven-furlong Gold Cup and December 3 Mouttet Mile, worth US$125,000.
3 EARLY WINNERS
Subratie, who sits third in the trainers’ stakes race, starting the afternoon $11m behind leader Jason DaCosta, strengthened his outside chance of a first championship title by boosting his bankroll with three earlier winners.
United States-bred debutante, SISTREN TREASURE, romped the second event at five and a half furlongs for Subratie, clocking 1:07.1 at odds of 1-2.
Subratie’s down-in-class ATLANTIC BLUE, a 2-1 chance, reproduced his early season form, third against overnight-allowance runners, to easily win the fourth among $750,000 claimers at seven and a half furlongs.
ALEXA’S DREAM, who also won at 2-1, handed Dawkins and Subratie their third winner, taking charge of the sixth event early in the stretch run, going past QUIET BOSS and ROCKET LILY to beat TAURUS BOY at six furlongs, clocking 1:12.4.
Dawkins extended his lead to seven wins ahead of champion Anthony Thomas, who rode one winner for the afternoon, Anthony Nunes’ FUNOMETER in the eighth event at five and a half furlongs.
