Harbour View destroyed Dundeholden 4-1 in a repeat of last season’s Jamaica Premier League (JPL) final at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex yesterday.

Nicholas Hamilton led the way for the ‘Stars of the East’ with a brace (34th and 86th minutes). Timar Lewis gave Harbour View the lead after 11 minutes, and although Fabian McCarthy tied the game with a freekick on 29 minutes, Hamilton’s double and another from Oshane Staple saw them to a resounding victory.

Though pleased with his team’s performance, Harbour View coach Ludlow Bernard is demanding more.

“I am pleased, yes, but I would demand a bit more in terms of tactical discipline. Dundeholden dominated possession, and when going up against teams like these we have to be patient and disciplined with our marking.

“I wasn’t prepared to dominate possession. I knew exactly what I was up against and the calibre players we were up against and was prepared for what transpired today.

“We created opportunities, which we always do and were able to score four, and it is not often we score four in a game against a top team,” he said.

Dundeholden started the brighter of the two teams and held the early ascendency, but they were caught by Harbour View, who jumped in front when Timar Lewis stole possession and beat goalkeeper Damion Hyatt with a ferocious shot from 25 yards.

Although going behind, Dunbeholden continued to control possession, and Fabian McCarthy drew them level with a well-taken freekick from 30 yards out.

Harbour View restored their advantage when Hamilton volleyed home Ronaldo Robinson’s delightful pass just past the half hour.

The winners extended their lead after the break when Oshane Staple controlled Jahshaun Anglins’ miscued shot and slotted past Hyatt.

As Dundeholden pressed forward in an effort to get back in the game, they were caught by a quick counter-attack, which was finished off by Hamilton at the back post with four minutes to go.

Bernard said his leading striker this season, Hamilton, continues to live up to expectations.

“He has been our best offensive player this season, so it is not strange what I got from him today, and he will continue to be on the end of plays this season,” he added.

Meanwhile, Dunbeholden’s Jermaine Thomas said they had a good start to the game but were let down by poor defending.

“It was a good start, but you don’t give away easy goals like that at this level. We were not concentrating, and defensively, we paid for it.

“It now comes down to the players and how willing they are to correct the mistakes we made today. So we have to get back to training and fix it,” he commented.
