Jailed Waterhouse players yet to learn court date

NO COURT date has been set for Devonte Walker and David Edwards, the two Waterhouse football players slapped with various charges after their alleged involvement in the theft of another player’s cheque and the use of a prohibited weapon against him in December.
The pair were taken into custody last Wednesday, initially by the Olympic Gardens police, but were later transferred to the Duhaney Park station.
However, Gleaner Sports latest checks reveal that the two have been moved to the Hunt’s Bay lockup, and further enquiries of the Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), the communication arm of the constabulary force, reveals that a court date has yet to be set.
A CCU release last week reported that the 19-year old Walker was charged with assault at common-law, being in possession of a prohibited weapon, using a prohibited weapon to commit a felony, and conspiracy.
The report stated that on December 8, a player’s cheque was stolen from his belongings in the changing area.
Walker emerged as a suspect after CCTV footage showed a man believed to be him cashing the missing cheque at a wholesale in the community on the day of the theft.
The report said Walker also called the complainant to a location, held him at gunpoint, and demanded that he report to the club that the money had been returned.
It said he also allegedly threatened the player not to return to training.
