Humble Lion have no fear – coach

HUMBLE LION’S performance in this season’s Jamaica Premier League (JPL) has largely gone unnoticed, with the Clarendon side climbing to third in the table after six wins and two draws from their 11 games.

The Andrew Price-coached team has won its last two games and has only lost once in five matches, including an important win over Portmore last Sunday.

Against league leaders Mount Pleasant at Drax Hall this Sunday, Price said Humble Lion have no fear of the league leaders and are looking to maintain their good form.

“They [Mount Pleasant] are playing at home and should really have their tails up. They have a good nucleus of players, experienced and talented players with a good coach.

“So we respect them, but we do not fear them and we are going to go into the game to play our regular game.

“When you are playing against strong teams you have to show them respect but go and play your game and that is what we plan to do on Sunday and it is our intention to win,” said Price.

He added that. “There is a good mood in the squad and the players are enjoying their footballer right now, so it is just about getting consistency

“We really want some amount of consistency and we are slowly but surely getting it.”

The team will be without captain and talisman Andrew Vanzie but Price said they trust in his replacement and their defensive solidity.

DEFENSIVELY SOUND

“Defensively, we have been very sound. We have had eight clean sheets. That is one of the things we pride ourselves on, having a strong defensive shape and keeping that shape throughout the game.

“It is just to transfer our good form into the offensive area. We want to be clinical in front of goal.

“We have not been winning a lot of games by wide margins but we are doing enough to get three points.”

Meanwhile, Mount Pleasant got the points after Chapelton Maroons’ no-show last Sunday but prior to that the team managed only one point from their previous six.

Although manager Paul Christie anticipates another tough assignment, he expects his team to be on the winning end.

“Anyone that takes Humble Lion lightly based on this season’s performance, look past them at your own peril.

“They have been playing good football and it is a strong unit. However, Mount Pleasant is prepared well.

“The coach [Theodore Whitmore] has prepared the team well for Sunday and the fans should be in for a treat,” said Clarke.

He said they know what to expect from the Clarendon side but think they will be too strong for their opponents.

“We are aware of their style of play and we have been doing our homework. It will not be easy, but over 90 minutes, I believe Mount Pleasant will get the better of this tough Humble Lion team.”
