Million-dollar sprinting on show at Gibson McCook

OUTSIDE OF prizes for top-performing high school teams at this year’s Gibson McCook Relays, its 50th anniversary celebration will also include lucrative cash incentives for the men’s and women’s 60 metres, where a total of US$50,000 (J$7,691,910) will be shared around.

The winners of the shortest sprint will walk away with US$10,0000 (J$1,538,382), but there will be prizes for all eight competitors.

A second-place finish will attract a cash prize of US$6,000 (J923,029.20), while finishing third will bring with it a US$3,500 (J$538,433.70) reward.

Finishing in the middle of the pack at fourth place will make an athlete US$2,000 (J$307,676.40) richer, while a fifth-place finish brings a US$1,250 (J$192,297.75) reward.

There will be US$1,000 (J$153,838.20) on offer for sixth-place finishers, while a seventh-place end will bring US$750 (J$115,378.65). The person who finishes at the back of the pack earns US$500 (J$76,919.10).
