LONDON (CMC):

JAMAICA REGGAE Girl forward Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw notched the opener and Chloe Kelly scored her first English FA Women’s Super League (WSL) goal of the season when Manchester City beat bottom side Leicester City 2-0 yesterday at King Power Stadium, to move up to third.

A looping header from Shaw, the WSL top scorer, gave the Jamaican her 10th league goal of the season and 17th in all competitions from as many matches – and put Gareth Taylor’s side in front on 61 minutes.

Kelly’s superb strike made sure of full points 13 minutes later, the England forward cutting in from the right before rifling a low, left-footed strike into the far corner.

INSPIRED PERFORMANCE

It took an inspired performance from Leicester goalkeeper Janina Leitzig to keep the hosts level for as long as they were, but she had no chance with either goal.

The Bayern Munich loanee made a WSL record 15 saves in the match, including six in the opening 20 minutes, and the visitors created chances almost at will early on.

Shaw, Kelly, Deyna Castellanos, and the impressive Lauren Hemp were all denied by Leitzig.

But the six-foot-tall Spanish Town-born Shaw, 26, who led the line at centre-forward, finally broke the deadlock when she guided Laura Coombs’ right-wing cross past Leitzig.
