Frazsiers Whip, Olympic in top-of-the-table Zone A clash
The coaches of Frazsiers Whip and Olympic Gardens FC expect their top-of-the-table Zone A Jamaica Women’s Premier League (JWPL) clash will be a tough one when the two teams meet in the feature game at the UWI/JFF Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence today at 3 p.m.
Frazsiers Whip lead Zone A with maximum 24 points from eight games, nine clear of second-place Olympic Gardens but coach Xavier Gilbert recalls how testing the first match between them was and anticipates another difficult contest.
“We already defeated them in the season opener but teams are getting better and we just have to remain focused and continue to work hard. After beating everybody they (players) think they can take it easy but the game is played on the day. We have to go out and put in the work and hopefully we can get the better of them,” Gilbert said.
He noted that Olympic have experienced players in their ranks , who if they play smart can make them hard to beat.
“We hope we will be able to prevail over them but we expect a tough game. We want to guard against complacency, as our objective is to stay unbeaten,” Gilbert added.
Olympic’s coach Michael Peart said it will be hard to overturn the result, nevertheless he predicts it will be a keenly contested game.
“We are hoping for a performance similar to what we produced the last time we played them,” Peart said.
He admitted Frazsiers Whip have continued to improve and that their task will be even tougher this time.
“They have improved game by game, so it will be a tough. It is going to be close and we will have to try and contain them. The first game we were basically on the same level but they have trained more regularly than us, so they might be ahead. But if we can contain and hit on the counter, it can be a different game,” he assessed.
Frazsiers Whip lead Group A with 24 points, followed by Olympic on 15. Baptiste are next on nine, Springers have seven and Rangers, three. Cavalier sit atop Group B with 21 points, six clear of Vere in second. Mile Gully are next with 12, then Royal Lakes with seven and Real MoBay on three.
