THE HIGHLY anticipated 2023 Mayberry Investment Swim meet lived up to expectations at the National Aquatic Centre, ending on Sunday.

In the high school division, 2022 champions Immaculate Conception High School defended their girls’ title, amassing 582 points to demolish second-place Campion College, who finished with 379. St Andrew’s High School were third with 354 points.

Campion College, on the other hand, who were champions among the boys in 2022, had to play second fiddle this time around, dethroned by an outstanding all-round effort from their Heroes Circle rivals.

Wolmer’s Boys’ School would go on to tally 492 points, ahead of Campion’s 393 and Kingston College, who finished on 226 points to round off the top three.

In the preparatory school division, it was business as usual as Hillel Academy, yet again, swept both the boys’ and girls’ categories.

Head coach of the prep school double champions, Wendy Lee, was elated at being able to defend her title.

“I’m elated because we haven’t won anything this season. This is the first competition that the girls are winning, because in the last two meets we finished second, so we really fought hard for this. Everyone knows coach Wendy really enjoys winning so this feels good because this is the first title for the year in the boys’ and girs’ and it’s an awesome feeling,” she stated.

According to Lee, it comes as no surprise that Hillel retained their title because swimming has become part of the curriculum at the school.

“We have a pool at school and we have a very strong swimming programme and we always do swimming as a subject in school while also having it as a curriculum activity, so in general, Hillel is a swimming family,” said Lee.

Excelsior were named 2023 winners in the primary school category, defending their title over the likes of Jessie Ripoll Primary, and Mount Alvernia.
