Hydel High School's Kaydeen Johnson attempts to clear the final hurdle on her way to the girls' Open steeplechase at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls' Athletics Championships inside the National Stadium earlier this evening.

When Hydel High School’s Kaydeen Johnson clocked 7:15.01 seconds to win the girls’ 2000-metre steeplechase, she was not concerned that Edwin Allen, rivals on the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships points standings, would be extending their lead because teammate Kayla Myers was also in the race.

The two, who finished first and fourth racked up 13 points for first and fifth but had to do quick calculations with Edwin Allen’s Sanyae Gibson and Sushana Johnson had finished third and fourth.

Edwin Allen’s Gibson clocked 7:27.51 for six points, while Sushana Johnson, 7:37.93, mined five points.

The difference in point totals, 13 to 11, may never have been, after Kaydeen Johnson, leading by a slim margin, fell over the final hurdle and was passed by Holmwood Technical’s Terrica Clarke.

But as if possessed, Kaydeen Johnson rose to her feet and powerd past Clarke, who ended in 7:17.04.

The two points may prove important when it is considered that at the end of what had been 19 completed finals, the table read Edwin Allen 124.50 points, Hydel, 116.50.
