Young Scorpions fall again, defending champs’ struggles continue
THE YOUNG Jamaica Scorpions have come down to earth in the Rising Stars Under-15 Championships, losing their second game in three, this time to the Leeward Islands Hurricanes at the Liberta Sports Club yesterday.
The young Scorpions, losing by six wickets, have had some trouble with the bat and could only manage 117 in 26.2 overs against the stifling bowling of Amoree Jones, who had 4-20 and Lythe Browne, who bagged 2-6.
The Leewards didn’t have it all their own way when they replied, getting to 119 for four from 33.1 overs with Lawshord Bergan, 31 not out and Matthew Miller, 23, getting them over the line after a few wickets put them in a little trouble.
Ryan Lyttleton, 3-36, was the best bowler for the Jamaicans.
The Jamaicans had opened the season with a win over Barbados but then fell to Guyana on Thursday.
Over at the Vivian Richards Cricket Ground, the defending champions, Barbados Pride, have continued to struggle, losing their third straight game, on this occasion to the high-riding Trinidad and Tobago Red Force who are yet to lose.
The defending champions found themselves 17 runs adrift of the Red Force.
Batting first, T&T scored 235 for eight thanks to Brendan Boodoo’s 82. Christian Lall, 25, and Dimitri Ramjattan, 22, chipped in against the bowling of R’Jai Gittens, 2-61.
In reply, Barbados could only muster 218 in 49 overs despite Gadson Bowens’ 65 and Raphael Lovell’s 61. Yasir Deen was the best bowler for T&T with 2-30.
At Coolidge Cricket Ground, the Windward Islands Volcanoes enjoyed a 29-run victory against the Guyana Harpy Eagles, despite scoring just 174 in their 50 overs.
Tyler Venner scored 45 to help bolster the Windward Innings against the bowling of Dave Mohabir, who grabbed 3-19.
In reply, Guyana made it to 145 in 40.3 overs but, while well ahead of the run rate, were not able to keep matters under control under the wickets column.
Razam Koobir, 39, and Navin Boodwah, 35, both got starts but failed to carry on against the bowling of Jorden Charles, who had 4-31, and Theo Edwards, 3-19.
