Grange pledges $20 million for Reggae Girlz

Sports Minister Olivia Grange has pledged $20 million to the national senior women's team for their ongoing 2023 Women's World Cup preparations.

Grange made the announced today at the launch of the FIFA Women's World Cup Trophy tour, which started in Kingston.

Grange said that support will be in the form of monthly stipends for members of the team to cover nutrition and other training needs, starting at the end of this month continuing until the end of the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand this summer.

"We want to make sure that the Reggae Girlz have the best chance ever to come home with the trophy," Grange said.

Additionally, Grange said that they are looking forward to more discussions with the Jamaica Football Federation on other ways that they can support the team's efforts.

Jamaica is the 18th stop on the tour, which started in Kingston, went to St Jago High, will travel to Ocho Rios High School, before making its final stop in Montego Bay. The trophy will then head to Canada.

The Reggae Girlz are drawn with France, Brazil and Panama in their World Cup group.
