Mojito to outclass rivals again

NOTCHING his fourth consecutive victory in The Kingston a month ago, MOJITO clocked a solid 1:33.0, running through rivals at the half-mile to straighten seven lengths clear, adding another five to be a lonely winner at the wire.

Looking past MOJITO for Sunday’s 2000 Guineas is as close to racing suicide as one can get. The grey colt increased his winning margin out of last December’s Jamaica Two Year Old Stakes by 10 lengths when landing the Kingston at seven and a half furlongs a month ago, dismissing much-touted HUNTSMAN by a dozen lengths.

MOJITO is simply too good to be stopped in the Guineas with the looks of a Triple Crown winner written all over him. Exacta players could take a shot at RHYTHM BUZZ, who showed rapid acceleration to outfinish ARIA’S REIGN and ALL FOR LOVE at a mile in his first race among non-winners-of-two, suggesting he is above average.

With HUNTSMAN reportedly lame and missing the Guineas, Doubting Thomases could be foolishly looking to another double-digit winner, MONEY MISER, as a likely outsider. Similar to HUNTSMAN, MONEY MISER ran roughshod over maidens, winning by 17 lengths on his second start, clocking 1:27.2 for seven furlongs.

It didn’t take long for HUNTSMAN to tell maidens apart from a two-year-old graded stakes winner after MOJITO ran through to turn the Kingston into a procession, a lesson MONEY MISER will soon understand at level weight.
