Excelsior rebound to claim ISSA urban under-16 title

AFTER LOSING the Inter-Secondary Schools Association Under-19 T20 cricket final to Wolmer’s Boys recently, Excelsior High School now have a reason to smile as their under-16 team made light work of St Jago High in the final at Kensington Park yesterday to claim the urban area title.

Once again it was one of their standout player this season, Demarco Scott, along with Jamar Daley, who came up with the goods to help their team to the trophy.

It was St Jago who decided that they would make first use of the Kensington pitch but that decision backfired as they were skittled out for just 22 runs in 14 overs with spinner Scott bagging an outstanding five wickets for just three runs in seven overs.

The diminutive off-spinner was impressive in opening the bowling, and in the process sent down four maidens, including two wicket maidens.

Daley supported well with the ball by bagging two wickets for 19 runs, as Excelsior only used the two bowlers to run through the St Jago line-up which had only eight players.

Antwon Robinson tried hard to stave off the Excelsior onslaught by scoring 12 not out, as five St Jago batters failed to score.

Daley then returned with the bat to score an unbeaten 10 runs to see Excelsior over the line at 23 for two, despite Vitell Lawes trapping Jovaine Williams for nine and Orlando Thomas for no score. Scott was left unbeaten on two runs.

In the meantime, the rural final will continue today as rain affected yesterday’s play with Manchester High set to resume on 36 for five against Tacky High. Orane Wright is not out on 15 with Dijon Taylor, Terrain Noyan and Jevaughn Shim taking a wicket each so far.
