Jamaica's 2023 Gold Cup campaign began with a 1-1 draw against reigning champions, the United States at Soldier Field in Chicago tonight.

Damion Lowe got the opening goal in the 13th minute thanks to a thumping header from a Demarai Gray delivery. Gray was making his international debut. Jamaica would have an opportunity to make it 2-0 later in the first half, however a Leon Bailey penalty was saved by goalkeeper Matt Turner and a rebound was off target.

It was a chance that Jamaica would regret as Brandon Vaquez equalised for the United States in the 88th minute with a close-range finish.

The wait for a win continues for head coach Heimir Hallgrimsson, the Icelandic coach now going eight games without a win.

His record is now four draws and four defeats.
