Royals join Kings atop Jamaica T10 standings

A COUPLE of the Surrey teams seem to be hitting all the right notes in this year’s Dream XI-sponsored Jamaica T10 competition after the Royals picked up their second win in as many games to join the unbeaten Kings at the top of the standings on six points following day three action at Sabina Park yesterday.

In the day’s opening fixture, the Royals secured a seven-wicket win over the Surrey Risers, scoring 103 for three in 8.5 overs in response to 100 for eight.

Nicholas Lewin, with 25, and Mark Campbell, with 23, gave the Risers the perfect start with a 29-run first-wicket partnership in just 1.4 overs. It took off-spinner Peat Salmon to break the partnership when he removed Lewin before Abhijai Mansingh bowled Campbell.

Lionel Morant helped to spruce up the score with 17 runs from eight balls to get his Risers past the 100 mark for the first time in the tournament.

In reply, The Royals were in early trouble after losing National opener Leroy Lugg for eight and Salmon for four at 13 for two in the first over of the innings, bowled by Anthony Dackers.

National batsman Carlos Brown and captain Javelle Glenn then steadied things with a 55-run third-wicket stand before the latter fell for 19.

Player of the match, Brown went on to hit an unbeaten 38 from 18 balls with one four and four sixes to see the team over the line. West Indies all-rounder Odean Smith hit an unbeaten 17, which included three fours.

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Middlesex United Stars picked up their first win, getting the better of the Middlesex Titans by 32 runs.

The United Stars first posted a formidable 125 for eight in their allotted 10 overs with Milton Mills getting 26 and 25 each from Suwayne Wilson and Sushane Anderson.

Left-arm spinner Christopher Lamont bagged two wickets for eight runs for the Titans, who could only manage 93 for seven in 10 overs. Sheldon Pryce, Damani Sewell and Jamaine Morgan took two wickets each.
