Late goal costs young Reggae Boyz in CAC Games opener

JAMAICA’S YOUNG Reggae Boyz failed to secure three points in their Central American and Caribbean Games (CAC) opening fixture against Honduras in San Salvador, El Salvador, yesterday.
Ronaldo Webster’s 41st-minute strike gave the team a 1-0 lead at the halfway mark but the young Reggae Boyz conceded in the dying embers of the fixture as Honduras’ CD Olimpia defender, Axel Maldonado, scored in the 92nd minute to grab a share of the spoils. Jamaica will now turn their attention to Costa Rica, who they will face on Friday at 6:00 p.m.
In other news from the CAC Games, Jamaica’s men’s hockey team tasted defeat in their opening Group A fixture, losing 3-0 at the hands of Mexico.
The trio of Kevin Amador, Jorge Gomez, and Pablo Munzo registered goals for the Mexican team.
On Tuesday, Jamaica’s women also suffered defeat in their opening fixture following a 4-0 defeat to Trinidad and Tobago.
Over in the pool yesterday, Sidrell Williams finished fourth in the B final of the men’s 100-metre butterfly.
Williams, clocked 56.84 to finish behind Aruba’s Patrick Groters, 54.78, Honduras’ Carlos Vasquez, 55.98, and Panama’s Jeancarlo Andres Calderon Harper, 56.71. Earlier, Williams qualified for the final, swimming the same time for a sixth place finish in a heat won by Venezuela’s Jorge Otaiza in 52.81.
